How do I order a Custom Designed Light?
- Just supply us with: An image or a description of what you would like designed on your lamp. To do this, visit the page for our free estimate. Here, you can describe your product to us and/or upload a picture. Or, click here to download our Printable Order Form and mail, fax, or email it to us with an enclosed image or description for a quote! Choose a solid color or a patterned background for your design to be carved on- if you don’t see the color you’re looking for, let us know- chances are, we can find it.
- You will receive a quote within two business days for the cost of your custom designed light.
- To pay for your light, simply click the link in the email you received containing the quote. Once we receive payment, we will begin construction of your custom designed light.
FAQ
Price: The total cost, which includes the lamp, artwork, bulb, and everything you need to hang it, starts at $45. You will also have to pay for shipping, which usually costs $5 to $15 depending on your location.
Why are lights priced from $45 and up? Lights are priced solely on the complexity of their design. We try to keep prices as low as possible, but some designs can be much more time intensive than others. View examples on our store gallery to get an idea of pricing, or you can email us at info@happycatlights.com for a quote request.
Shipping: We ship all lights via either USPS Priority Mail or FedEx Ground from Massachusetts. Shipping rates vary depending on your location. Please click the “Estimate Shipping” button in your shopping cart to get your exact shipping rate. You will receive your light 2-4 days business days after it is sent. We also ship internationally via USPS International Priority (6-10 days).
Design: Designs are cut by hand. Lights are made of a sturdy white plastic and can be placed on any flat surface.
Size: HappyCat Lights measure 8.5″x8.5″x4″. To provide some perspective, here is our lamp posing with some household objects. Incidentally, a HappyCat light is roughly the same height as a hardback Harry Potter book.
Brightness: Each light comes with a 40 watt candelabra bulb. For comparison, most table lamps use a 60 watt bulb, while most night lights use a 20 watt bulb. Do not use a greater wattage than 40. We also now offer 9 watt (40 watt equivalent) compact fluorescent bulbs.
Purchasing Previous Designs: Aside from purchasing a new, custom design, you can also purchase any previously created light in our store, and we will recreate it for you. All designs are hand carved, so even if you purchase one of our previous designs it will still be created by hand.
Multiple Designs:You can also order additional designs for your lamp for a reduced price, and we’ll pay the shipping costs. This means you can switch out your designs whenever you’d like, as it’s pretty easy to change them.

- How long does the design process take?
The time it takes for us to create your lamp varies on the complexity of your submitted design and our current order queue. We try to have every lamp designed, packaged, and shipped within one week.
- Can you recreate any design?
Mostly! We have found that nearly all types of images look great as HappyCat Lights. There are, however, legal restrictions on certain designs. Please visit our terms of use page for more details.
For the truly curious: “HappyCat” was a popular internet phenomenon from several years ago, based on a picture of a smiling cat. The first light designed, which served as our inspiration, was a carving of HappyCat.
